View from Margaret Knoll lookout

This short, easy walk takes you along a boardwalk and up a series of steps to the spectacular Margaret Knoll Lookout.

Situated at the edge of a plunging inland cliff, the lookout offers panoramic views of the national park’s inland and coastal landscapes.

It’s also one of the best places on the island to watch seabirds including frigatebirdsgolden bosuns, and brown and red-footed boobies.

You might even spot flying foxes gliding around from late afternoon to early evening.

Margaret Knoll is one of the only known locations to see the critically endangered endemic fern: Christmas Island Spleenwort (Asplenium listeri). This delicate fern can be found growing among the exposed limestone rocks alongside the stair access to the lookout.
