Dales, Dolly and West White Beach infrastructure upgrades
Monday 13 July 2026
Parks Australia advises that several upgrades to improve access to popular Christmas Island areas will be undertaken during the second half of 2026.
- Dolly Beach boardwalk upgrades are scheduled between 13 July – 30 August 2026. This includes the replacement of 85 metres of boardwalk from the national park boundary to the top of the beach access stairs. This work will build on the temporary upgrades previous delivered and will address long-term safety. Access is expected to remain open during construction but some periodic closures may be necessary. The public will be notified of any closures in advance.
- West White Beach infrastructure upgrades are scheduled between 1 August – 30 September 2026. This includes installation of permanent ropes and ladders to improve beach access for visitors. Access is expected to remain open during construction. But some periodic closures may be necessary. The public will be notified of any closures in advance.
- Dales boardwalk and handrails upgrades are scheduled between 1 October – 20 November 2026. This includes installation of 120 metres of new handrail and a new section of boardwalk and handrail to circumvent a large fallen tree. The trail terminus will be closed during construction. The remainder of the trail will be open during installation of handrails and other repairs.
Please follow all traffic management signs and directions from traffic managers. Visit the Christmas Island Road Access Board for the latest information on road access.
We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and appreciate your patience while this important infrastructure is delivered.
