Have your say on Christmas Island National Park’s future
Tuesday 16 June 2026

The Director of National Parks is inviting public comments on the draft of a new 10-year management plan for Christmas Island National Park.

The Christmas Island National Park Management Plan 2014-2024 expired on 31 March 2024. Under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 the Director of National Parks is required to prepare a new management plan for the park.

The purpose of the new plan is to describe the direction and management actions of Christmas Island National Park for the next 10 years.

Key areas for consideration during this stage of public consultation include:

  • What priorities should guide management of Christmas Island National Park over the next 10 years?
  • What are the park’s most important values that must be protected into the future?
  • What do you see as the biggest challenges or risks to those values over the next 10 years?
  • Where should the plan place more or less emphasis?

Responses received during the public consultation stage will be considered by the Director of National Parks and will inform finalisation of the new 10-year management plan. Public comments can be submitted through the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s Have Your Say portal between 16 June to 17 July 2026.
