Upgraded seabird facility strengthens Christmas Island's H5 bird flu preparedness

Christmas Island's seabirds will be better protected from the potential impacts of H5 bird flu with upgrades to the Parks Australia seabird rehabilitation facility set to start.
The improvements will increase both biosecurity measures and holding capacity, enhancing the facility's ability to respond to a potential bird flu outbreak while also supporting the ongoing care of injured and orphaned seabirds.
While H5 bird flu has been detected in Australia, it has not been recorded on Christmas Island, and staff continue to play a key role in preparing for potential impacts.
